On Friday, February 16, Berea Community Elementary School hosted its annual Jump Rope for Heart event. Jump Rope for Heart is a fundraiser that encourages kids to raise money for the American Heart Association. This event teaches kids how to stay active and healthy, as well as the importance of helping others.

The Berea Community High School Wellness Club partners with the elementary teachers to put on the event. The Wellness Club sent around 40 high school students to aid the teachers in running different activities and booths on the day of the event. “It was fun,” reflected freshman Jatzel Correa. “It’s for a good cause and it helps the kids, and it helps me to be more involved.”

Leading up to the Jump Rope for Heart event, each elementary student spends a few weeks asking for donations for The American Heart Association, and the students are able to receive prizes based off of the amount that they raise. “My goal was to reach about $20 because I really want the kids who need help to get the help that they need,” said fourth grader Maddie Spangler. “My favorite activity [at Jump Rope for Heart] is raising money…when you know you’re helping somebody, it makes you feel good.”
