On September 22, the BCHS cross country team hosted the annual Berea Invitational cross country meet at the Brushy Fork Trail, located in town, hosting 30 schools ranging from elementary, middle, and high schools across the state and almost 700 runners. The invitational was quite the popular event for cross country.

Berea’s performance seemed to focus on gaining small improvements and recovery rather than to actively try to compete with other teams, citing issues like injuries and absences to their choice of a more relaxed strategy going into the invitational. Confidence was still high, however, according to junior Julian Clavere: “I feel overall we did really well, we all had great times and we all got close to or surpassed our seasonal PR’s [personal records],” he said.

Regardless of their lack of competitiveness this week, the cross country team believes that their improvements will help them be more competitive in future meets this season; their next one will be on October 6 at the Lexington Catholic Invitational.
